Brian Taylor takes another stab at bringing the Mike Mignola comic book character to the big screen, following up Oscar winner Guillermo Del Toro’s 2004 film and 2008 sequel featuring Ron Perlman as the title character, and the underperforming 2019 reboot starring David Harbour with this much lower-budget outing. Set in 1959, we find Jack Kesy taking over the reins as Hellboy, traveling to an Appalachian forest to return a giant escaped spider by train while in service with the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense. His rookie partner is Bobbie Jo Song (Adeline Rudolph), who ends up stuck in the woods with Hellboy when the train derails, and the pair soon discover the place is full of witches. Also darkening things up is a demon known as The Crooked Man (Martin Bassindale), who serves as an evil soul collector for Satan. Hannah Margetson plays Cora Fisher, who’s under the spell of local enchantress Effie (Leah McNamara) and who Hellboy and Bobbie attempt to save after being enlisted by Cora’s pre-war beau, Tom Ferrell (Jefferson White). Hannah’s hooters are out as she writhes in bed seemingly possessed. Hellboy’s ready to shoot her, meanwhile you’ll be ready to shoot a load of your own!
