The Summer Book (2025)

This quiet, simplistic drama is adapted from Tove Jansson’s 1972 book of the same name, inspired by the author’s own experiences spending summers with her family. Eight-year-old Sophia (first time actress Emily Matthews) arrives at a summer cabin located on a small island in the Gulf of Finland with her Father (Anders Danielsen Lie) and Grandmother (Glenn Close). All three are still grieving the death of Sophia’s mother, with Father burying himself in his work as an illustrator while Sophia and Grandmother spend their days exploring the island. While they mourn the loss of a loved one, you certainly won’t be mourning the loss of Glenn’s clothes. At 78, the award-worthy actress insisted on putting in a nude scene in the film, so we’re gifted with a look at Glenn’s right boob and bare ass as she walks alone in the woods in broad daylight. Others man like to crack open a book, but this is the kind of crack we prefer!
