The 2025 Cannes Film Festival is underway, and there’s a new dress code for the red carpet that’s got tongues wagging - in addition to its requirement that all women wear high heels, “voluminous outfits” and “nudity” are now prohibited. The no nudity rule is targeting sheer dresses that have been worn in the past, like when Bella Hadid’s nips were visible in a Saint Laurent dress just last year.
The folks at Cannes may not want nudity in person, but they certainly don’t mind it on the screen. Many of the winners of the festival’s biggest award - the Palme d’Or - have had nude scenes, especially within the last twenty-five years. The year Bella was strutting her areolas around, Anora and Mikey Madison took top honors with the nudity it took to tell the story of a Brooklyn sex worker who impulsively marries the young son of a Russian oligarch.
